Static Knowledge
Static Knowledge

They say knowledge is the currency of the future. Really? This idea is often put forward by those whose interests are best served by it. Knowing something is often a replacement for actually doing something. Arguing for knowledge in this sense is an argument from laziness.
There’s a proliferation of static knowledge - endless heaps of information, the equivalent of loads of books on shelves that no one reads. What’s needed is dynamic knowledge and that is inseparable from action. It was always thus. Socrates said something similar when he argued that knowledge and wisdom were inseparable. Knowledge should be in service to getting things done. Sometimes you don’t need to know much to get something done. You need effort, initiative, dynamism.
The attempt to subvert this age old truth by putting knowledge at the forefront of everything is about trying to replace a difficult thing with an easy thing. Nice work if you can get it but you probably can't.
