The Dark Side
The Dark Side

Every life situation has its dark side, often ignored. The dark side of individualism and self-determination for example harbours selfishness, narcissism and at the extreme solipsism, a place where there is no we there is only me.
Collectivism is often proffered as morally superior and maybe it is. But it too has its dark side, equally horrific at least. It can easily degenerate into coercion which when combined with bad judgement leads a society to ruin. History has borne this out.
In Jungian terms we need to examine the dark side if for no other reason than to keep tabs on it. Failure to do that will always have dire consequences.
