Stephen Pinker is an American professor of psychology. He believes in the innate disposition of humans to be certain ways e.g. violent, sexual etc. This goes against the perceived wisdom of much of the past century which thought that we are born blank slates upon which experience is conferred.
I agree with Pinker and believe there are innate dispositions and that the tide may be turning in favour of that older insight. Problem is that when you apply such a theory to race or gender the inferences might not be palatable. Are women or people of particular ethnicity pre-disposed to certain behaviours? Difficult issue. Who’s going to stand up and argue that?
