Maintaining Mythos
Maintaining Mythos

I don't buy the notion that an artist has some kind of shamanistic vision. Artists are not in my experience particularly elevated people and often not very decent. They are generally self-absorbed, vain and insecure (I include myself). Most of them don’t see beyond themselves.
I don't care who artists are or what they say any longer. I don't care if I never see them or know anything about them. I wouldn't care if I never saw another music video. For that matter I wouldn't care much if I never saw another live performance.
I get so much value from recorded works that I am more than happy with that. Anything else, like being subjected to a particular artist's actual life, tends to spoil the effect. That includes their ego-strutting all over a stage.
Personal mythology gets more difficult to sustain with years so no need to kill it off entirely with too much reality. Music recordings are my way of preserving that all too precious mythos.
