Jamie
When James Stuart left the country having been removed from the British throne, the English were glad to see the back of him. The Celts less so. Ireland held on for generations to what the Stuart heritage represented to them: religious conviction and an independent identity. Scotland let go more easily especially after the '45 rebellion but Jacobite romanticism lived on in the memory and in songs like There'll Never Be Peace, raised to posterity by Burns.
THERE’LL NEVER BE PEACE TILL JAMIE COMES HAME (folk)
